Milt Miller
In his 25 years as a head coach
Milt Miller assembled a legendary resume: a 209-93 career record (.692) and
two State Titles. Miller spent 15 years at Worth County
to start his head coaching career and was tremendously successful, posting a
130-54 record and appearing in four State Title games, winning the Title in
1987. Worth County had six seasons with double-digit wins under Miller while
suffering only two losing seasons. In Miller’s final six years at Worth
his teams were a total of 72-13, all four of their Title Game appearances
under Miller came in this span as well. Miller became the head coach at
Lowndes before the 1992 season but didn’t enjoy immediate success; in
fact the Vikings were 9-21 during Miller’s first three years. Things
began to change for the better in the 1995 season though as Lowndes reached the
playoffs for the first time since 1986 and finished the season 7-4. Over the
next six seasons the Vikings put together a total record of 63-14, won two
outright Region Titles, and reached the State Semi-finals twice, with the
latter of those, 1999, becoming the Vikings second State Championship team
after starting the season 3-3 and 0-2 in region play. The Vikings won at
least ten games five times in Miller’s last seven years and returned to
their status as one of the great powers in the state. Milt Miller retired from
coaching after the 2001 season, his total record as the Vikings head coach
was 79-39.
